Mandala painting is more than creative expression – it is a state of mind. As soon as a pattern begins to repeat itself, something changes within me: I become calmer, my head clears and my focus shifts entirely to the here and now. Without thinking too much, I follow the rhythm point by point – and often find more inner peace than in a whole day full of to-dos.
The rhythm of the patterns
Mandalas thrive on repetition: shapes, colours and structures are repeated with slight variations and together form a harmonious whole. These repetitions have a rhythmic effect that carries me along. Point by point, circle by circle, the pattern grows, almost as if by itself – and with it grows an inner peace that I rarely feel so deeply.
I often start with a clear focus, an initial impulse. And then I follow the pattern. Sometimes planned, but mostly intuitive. Repetition gives me security – it provides structure where everyday life often seems chaotic.
Repetition as a gateway to tranquillity
When the movements become familiar, when I no longer have to think about what comes next, a kind of inner automatism sets in – but not in the sense of carelessness. On the contrary: I am more alert, more focused and at the same time more relaxed. It is a state in which thoughts are allowed to come, but do not have to stay.
This is how mandala painting becomes a form of meditation for me. Not by sitting in the lotus position with an empty mind, but through action, repetition and dedication.
Serenity does not arise suddenly
This serenity is not a gift; it develops slowly, repetition after repetition. And this is also reflected in life: daily routines, conscious repetitions, small rituals – they help us find stability amid the hustle and bustle.
I have learned that repetition does not have to be boring. It can provide stability, clarity and even be therapeutic. And sometimes it is the key to an inner order that we have long sought in the outside world.
If you are curious about how this meditative state feels when painting mandalas, I invite you to attend one of my workshops. There you can experience how beneficial it is to immerse yourself completely in the flow of repetition – and create something beautiful in the process. You can find all the information here.
