When I start a mandala, I have no idea what the finished piece will look like. I decide on the colour palette, sometimes a shape, and then I put the first dot on the board. From there, everything develops step by step. I observe what emerges, what fits, what feels right. The structure of the mandala builds itself up without me planning it in advance. And that is one of the deepest insights I have gained from painting: you don't need a finished plan to create something beautiful.
Room for intuition
Mandalas teach me to trust my intuition. Instead of constantly questioning whether something is right, I am learning to follow my instincts. What does my gut feeling tell me?
This approach leaves room for spontaneity, little surprises and lively developments. It requires courage, because you don't always know where you're going. But it also gives you freedom. Instead of following a fixed concept, I can discover what emerges in the moment.
Giving up control, gaining trust
In our everyday lives, we often feel a desire for security. We plan, organise and structure things out of fear of doing something wrong or losing control. But when I paint, I realise again and again that control isn't everything. Trust is stronger.
I don't need to see the complete piece to get started. I can begin even if I don't yet see the entire path ahead. That's exactly how mandalas are created – dot by dot, stroke by stroke, without a finished template. And perhaps that's also how the most beautiful paths in life are created.
The creative flow
Sometimes it just takes the courage to take the first step. And sometimes it is precisely our uncertainty that makes us open to new ideas, to changing direction, to things that would otherwise have had no place in our lives. Creativity is not a rigid concept, but a flow.
When painting, I have learned to immerse myself in this flow. To let myself be carried along, without a goal, but with complete confidence in my abilities. And in the end, I am often surprised by the result – not because it was planned, but because I dared to let it happen.
Invitation to give it a try
If you would like to try this for yourself, I invite you to participate in one of my workshops. You don't need a plan or any prior knowledge – just the willingness to let yourself go and follow your inner feelings. Perhaps you will not only create a mandala, but also gain new confidence in yourself.
